It's January in Japan and hot - at least when the sun shines and the sky was pure blue today. I was sweating. However, as soon as you enter the shade it's chilly. I really wanted to paint the man on the moped, recently I've developed a visual attraction for mopeds. I don't know why. And while I was painting another English man appeared and shared a few hurried but polite words with me before he hurried to the bus stop. A little later a Japanese woman stopped and briefly chatted to me while she waited for the traffic lights to change. Upon discovering that I was English she told me delightedly that her husband loves football (I rarely watch football perhaps because my father liked rugby - which I also rarely watch). These brief chats filled me with a wonderful warm feeling, perhaps a feeling of connection. And, of course, that warm sun shining down on me was wonderful.
